Kim McCarthy (aka Soule or Urban Soule) was born in Spokane, Washington, USA in 1975. After growing up in the sticks (as she say's) she later moved to the city where she developed a taste for urban street art such as wheat pasted posters and flyer's, stickers, stencils, murals and spray painted graffiti. From 1993-95 Soule studied fine art and design in Spokane and in 2006 she studied Printmaking in Astoria, Oregon. Soule currently resides in Seattle, USA.

Soule had her first solo art show at the age of sixteen and since then she has had several solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions across the USA.

Soule's or Kim McCarthy's work spans many diciplines and she works with both painting (on multiple mediums), sculpture, prints, clothing, toys and housewares. As well as being an artist Soule is very active in the Seattle art community where she also writes art reviews.
